11. What is a Linear Meter (Running Meter)?
In the marble and natural stone industry, linear meter (lm / running meter) is a unit of length used for items with a uniform width, such as stair treads, risers, window sills, plinths/skirtings, copings, and borders. 1 linear meter corresponds to a 1-meter-long piece of stone regardless of its width.
22. Formula: Converting Linear Meters to Square Meters (m²)
To calculate the total surface area of a linear stone element, multiply the total linear length by its width converted to meters:
Calculation Example: 100 linear meters of stair treads with a 30 cm width: 100 × (30 / 100) = 100 × 0.30 = 30.00 m² of surface area.

To estimate total shipment weight and container logistics, multiply the calculated m² area by thickness and stone density:
Example: 30 m² of 3 cm thick Burdur Beige Marble treads: 30 × 0.03 m × 2,700 kg/m³ = 2,430 kg (2.43 Metric Tons).
